Joachim Georg Creuzfelder, 1622 in Nürnberg geboren, wurde im Barock zum »Maler der Grafen von Hohenlohe«. Denn sein Förderer, Graf Georg Friedrich von Hohenlohe-Weikersheim, holte ihn nach Langenburg. Zunächst im Dienste dieser Linie der Hohenloher Grafen stehend, war Creuzfelder schließlich auch für Waldenburg, Pfedelbach und die mit Hohenlohe verwandten Schenken von Limpurg tätig. Diese Publikation zeichnet fundiert seinen Werdegang im Geflecht der Hohenloher Grafenfamilien nach. Malerarbeiten und Kupfer – stichentwürfe, Bildtafeln für Altäre und Deckengemälde – all dies waren die Aufgaben des Hofmalers. Bilder mit religiöser Thematik geben Aufschluss über die konfessionelle Einstellung. Vor allem aber durch detailliert ausgestaltete Einzel- und Gruppenbildnisse erlangte Creuz – felder hohes Ansehen. Seine zahlreichen Darstellungen von Kindern vermögen noch heute zu berühren. Die in diesem Band meist großformatig wiedergegebenen Porträts spiegeln das Selbstverständnis des Adels jener Epoche. Adels jener Epoche. Recht kurzweilig führt Ursula Angelmaier wichtige Erkenntnisse vor Augen, die im Zuge ihrer intensiven Forschung zu Joachim Georg Creuzfelder gewonnen werden konnten.
