Beschreibung

By acquiring all the old German paintings of the former Fürstenberg collections of Donaueschingen, one of the most important and excellent private collections of late-medieval art, the Würth collection has been given a new focus.

Apart from well-known masters of the Oberrheinisches painting of the 15th and 16th century, including Hans Holbein the Elder, the Master of Messkirch, Lucas cranach the Elder and the younger, Bernhard Striegel or Hans Schäufelin, less well-known artists, who, however, do not stand up to the prominent artists in terms of their artistic skills and significance, belong to the collection of paintings. It is the era of religious and cultural change in which, apart from fragile reasons, competition between different families and groups of cities led to a large number of works of art. Discussing the historical environment with regard to the consequences that can be seen in the reorganization of outdated topics is part of this publication, as is the most comprehensive iconographic analysis of painting so far, which has set itself the task of illustrating the content of the representations and their importance.
Dietmar Lüdke and Kurt Lochloch won two of the best prominents of late medieval German painting and painting from the early modern age.
Additional contributions by Christoph Graf Douglas on the restoration of the collection and Beate Elsen-Schwedler on the cultural background of this damaging section of European history round off the volume.
